The Boatyard Bar & Grill’s Dick Franyo Blog reveals his winter perspective – fun from mostly warm places!

The Boatyard Bar & Grill’s Dick Franyo Blog reveals his winter perspective – fun from mostly warm places!

Last Blog was end of December. Now it’s almost spring. Paula asking “Dick where’s the Blog already?” OK, just a few more pics of winter on the Bay. Can’t help myself. How many shades of grey? (Editor's Note:  50?).  And one with the Pilot Launch taking Bay pilots to and from the ships anchored in the middle of the Bay waiting to go into the Port of Baltimore. It’s a great career btw! Speaking of ships anchored waiting to go to the Port of Baltimore with this weeks high winds there were 21 ships anchored out there. A record for me.

Boatyard "Postcards", Montana Fly Fishing, Holiday Thanks

Have you heard our “Postcards from the Boatyard” 15 second spots on WRNR 103.1 in Annapolis?  After years of running 60 second ads by our amazing “voice of the Boatyard” Eastport pirate, sailing pro, fishing guide and boat builder, Tom Weaver, arrrrg, we wrote eleven 15 second “postcards” that Tom and I split recording. They are pretty fun and entertaining (if I say so myself).  They cover visits with Jack Johnson, Jimmy Buffett, Kevin Bacon, the First Lady, the genesis of our crab cakes and lobster rolls, how we came

Our last Boatyard Charity event-the Boatyard Bash for and at the Annapolis Maritime Museum was held mid-September. A beautiful evening with amazing music and most importantly raising $90,000 for the AMM’s rich educational programs. Artists included Coral Reefers Pete Mayer and Doyle Grisham. Also John Frinzi, Keith Sykes, Aaron Scherz, Brendon Mayer, John Patti and Scott Kirby. Click here to see more pics on our website - but most importantly the whole evening's musical talent line up and the “Big Check" below.  It was our 13th year of this incredible event on the shores of Back Creek. 57,000 Maryland crab cakes, sailing, sea bass, cool stuff, Annapolis & beyond!

Plowing thru August - darn, days are getting shorter - but at least I don’t wake up at 5 AM at the first light streaming in. But summers are so great.

Americas Cup:

So I’m watching the Americas Cup awards presentation from Bermuda (while I am working at my desk) and Tucker Thompson walks out on stage and is the emcee of the whole show. The Boatyard was the first client of Tucker Thompson and Bruce Nairn of to film the AYC Wednesday Night races and other regattas which have been shown at the Boatyard for 17 years (AYC Wed Night Series as well as regattas from Key West to Charleston to Block Island to Newport - all towing our film boat). Tucker has been the front man of this year’s America’s Cup taking the 2016 Cup around the Country all year prior to the 2017 Cup held in June. He did a great job running the Awards Ceremony. Well done TT!

Boatyard Beach Bash-2017

Boatyard Beach Bash, Annapolis Maritime museum, dick franyo, parrott head, peter mayer, jimmy buffet bandNext date:  September 16, 2017

2017 will be our 13th Annual Boatyard Beach Bash to benefit the Annapolis Maritime Museum.  Boatyard owner, Dick Franyo is on the Board of the Annapolis Maritime Museum and had a vision for a fund/fun raiser with a Jimmy Buffett/Parrot Head theme. Dick is a Parrot Head and looked hard at the Jimmy Buffett's model of selling a lifestyle/entertainment/escapism venue when he started the Boatyard. He felt that this event could be different than other local musical fundraisers and that Parrot Heads would be enthusiastic supporters.

Outgrowing the Boatyard parking lot after three years, the event was moved to the newly renovated Annapolis Maritime Museum waterfront facility in Eastport.
