One down and three to go--- the Boatyard outdoor charity events that is. Our Opening Day Spring Fishing Tournament (Catch and Release) was held on Sat April 21. It benefits the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Coastal Conservation Association MD and the Annapolis Police Department Youth Fishing Camp. It was a tough day for the large number of boats (131!) fishing wise (why? water too cold? fish still up the Bay and rivers spawning? Every fisherperson has a strongly felt opinion!). So, cool this year that second place was won by a woman (Sara Brown) and third place was won by a youth (Will Muscatello). First place was Rich Vigue at 42.25 inches caught jigging at the Power Plant. The awards party was huge and fun and the tough day fishing was quickly forgotten. Over 1,000 here at the Boatyard eating Chefs George’s great food, music by the Jess McQuay Band and a more than a few adult beverages. Thanks to Anglers Sports Center (Charlie and Jane Ebersberger), our presenting sponsor for all 17 years of the tournament and all of the other sponsors, captains and crews, our volunteers from CBF and my Boatyard team that does a remarkable job. 17 years-- Yikes!!! Deer in our yard in Eastport. We assumed they swam over from Bay Ridge and were tired so just laid there resting and eating all our spring plants.
Our esteemed full moon expert explained that there are 2 months this year with 2 full moons each (an occurence also known as a blue moon). Apparently, when there are 2, they're both named the same and hence, we have another Worm Moon! As long as it's Spring, bring it on.
Drink specials, dancing and howling encouraged - come on down!
It is with a sad heart that we say farewell to a marvelous man and a dear friend - we are honored for the opportunity to celebrate his remarkable life. Please join us at the final Angler Night to toast Lefty by sharing classic movie clips, a moving Tom Brokaw tribute and an episode or two of Buccaneers & Bones.
Join us in Lefty's salute, presented by Chesapeake Bay Magazine and CCA MD at the Boatyard.

Last Blog was end of December. Now it’s almost spring. Paula asking “Dick where’s the Blog already?” OK, just a few more pics of winter on the Bay. Can’t help myself. How many shades of grey? (Editor's Note: 50?). And one with the Pilot Launch taking Bay pilots to and from the ships anchored in the middle of the Bay waiting to go into the Port of Baltimore. It’s a great career btw! Speaking of ships anchored waiting to go to the Port of Baltimore with this weeks high winds there were 21 ships anchored out there. A record for me.
As the luck o' the Irish would have it, the legendary Jeff Maguire once again reprises his traditional role as barkeep and owner for the day from noon to 8:00pm, Chef George O'Betz transforms the daily specials to feature delicious Irish dishes and the bar pumps beer into commemorative holiday glasses while they last. Live music with Jess McQuay band from 4-7pm.
Tuesday night, once a month for 3 months, come early and join fellow fisherfolk to shoot the breeze, tell tall tails, slurp a few oysters, get a good meal, enjoy awesome happy hour - and wait for the weather to break into a warm Spring of sunny days back on the water......dream big!
Sponsored by CCA MD and Chesapeake Bay Magazine, don't let the dry titles fool you - this year's films promise to tantalize and entertain beginning at 7pm.

A sunny day without much wind was not a deterrent for all those who turned out for this fun, family-friendly pursuit race to support CRAB (Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating). Upbeat Regatta participants were joined by party-goers and generous donors at the after-party featuring a live auction and music by Misspent Youth. With proceeds raised from the event, CRAB can purchase a brand new Beneteau First 22A! A big thanks to the event Sponsors including the Boatyard Bar & Grill for the delicious food, and Heineken and Mount Gay for refreshing rum drinks and beer! Enjoy the photos!
A balmy night of stellar entertainment under the stars delighted the sold-out crowd. The laid-back sounds of current members of Jimmy Buffet's Coral Reefers Band Doyle Grisham and Peter Mayer, along with the amazing talent of Keith Sykes, Brendan Mayer, John Frinzi, Scott Kirby, John Patti and Aaron Scherz (and sometimes our very own Dick Franyo) filled the evening. Annapolitans and Parrotheads turned out to benefit the Annapolis Maritime Museum, sponsored by the Boatyard Bar & Grill with other generous supporters, raising $90,000. Enjoy the photos!
